The adventures of the Ultimate X-Men continue with Ultimate X-Men #21-25. In these issues, the X-Men recruit Kitty Pryde to their school. Kitty is a teenager with the power to phase through solid objects.
Bobby Drake, a.k.a. Iceman, is no longer with the X-Men. His parents removed him from the school after he was hospitalized following the X-Men’s battle with Proteus. Seeking damages, his parents lead a highly publicized campaign to sue the X-Men. This causes the X-Men to fall out of favor with the public.
Meanwhile, Jean Grey’s visions return. These visions haunted her in the past, and were the reason she was institutionalized. Years ago, Xavier placed a mental block to keep Jean’s visions at bay. Her visions show a terrifying creature called The Phoenix.
Cyclops and Wolverine fight. As punishment, Xavier sends both on a rescue mission to the Savage Land. The mission goes astray and they lose contact with the School.
Back home, the X-Men are invited to meet their Benefactors: a secret society called the Hellfire Club. The invitation is a trap, and the members of the Club capture the X-Men. They claim to worship an ancient being: The Phoenix, and the Jean Grey is the human host of this deity. They execute a ritual to bring the Phoenix to Earth, manifested in Jean Grey’s body. But the Phoenix turns on the Club and murders all of its members. After an awesome display of power, the Phoenix gives control back to Jean.
Elsewhere, the Brotherhood of Mutants, now led by Quicksilver, carries out several missions. Under Quicksilver’s command, the Brotherhood has turned away from their terrorist tactics. Instead, they now target oppressive governments and evil corporations.
The Blob is secretly cat-fishing Beast, posing online as a mutant supermodel. Beast inadvertently reveals to the Blob that Magneto is alive. The Brotherhood acts quickly, find Magneto, and release him from Xavier’s mental blocks. With Magneto back, the Brotherhood set out to continue his plan for the eradication of the human race.
