It’s time for the weekly comic book recap! Here’s what went down:

Comic Book Arrivals

Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells vol. 5: Dead Language, Part I

I got this trade paperback to add to my Spider-Man collection. I’ll be completely honest: despite my love for Spider-Man, I am not a fan of Zeb Well’s run. While the first two volumes were fun, I feel that a lot was done to erase some of the things that have made Spider-Man great in recent years: his relationship with Mary Jane, his friendship with Johnny Storm, and even Doctor Octopus’ streak as an antihero. So I’ll wait until I have the entire series at hand before I read through the whole thing.

The Complete Gail Simone Red Sonja

In recent weeks I’ve been getting more into the Sword and Sorcery genre. I started collecting Red Sonja and read some decent reviews about Gail Simone’s run. I already liked her work on Birds of Prey and Batgirl, so I thought I’d check out her work. This oversized book is big, a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

Danger Girl: The Ultimate Collection

I’m a “90’s kid”, so my first exposure to comic books was in the 90’s. There’s something about gritty, exaggerated, and edgy comics that reminds me of a simpler time. And nothing says 90’s comics like the original Image comics. I got Danger Girl (I was choosing between this and Gen 13) as a reminder of those times, although after giving it a cursory view, I don’t think I would’ve been allowed to read this comic when it first came out.

Daredevil and Elektra by Chip Zdarsky vol. 2: The Red Fist Saga, Part II

I am head-over-heels in love with Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil series. I know that his tenure on the comic book is ending (or has ended, depending on when I publish this post), so I made it my mission to collect his entire Daredevil saga.

Extreme Carnage

Continuing my Spider-Man collection, I got Extreme Carnage. I’m assuming this is a spiritual sequel to Maximum Carnage and Absolute Carnage (both of which were gruesome), and I picked it up because the new Carnage series seems to follow from this event. It’ll probably be a while before I read it, but I’m looking forward to it.

Mary Jane and Black Cat: Dark Web

This comic forms part of my Spider-Man collection. I liked Jed MacKay’s Black Cat series and its sequel Iron Cat. Though I probably won’t read this until after I get through Well’s run and the rest of the Dark Web storyline.

Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Rebellion vol. 5

One more book to add to my Star Wars collection! While I’ve preferred to collect books from Tales of the Jedi and The Old Republic, I saw that this book had Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, which is an essential novel in Star Wars lore.

Reading Progress

Teen Titans vol. 3: Beast Boys and Girls

I finished the third volume of Geoff Johns’ Teen Titans. This book had a strong focus on Beast Boy, and moves away from the overarching plots involving Slade Wilson and Raven. It took me some time to get through this volume, and I’ll have a review ready in the near future.

Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky vol. 2-4

I read through three more volumes of Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil. I am hooked on this series! It wouldn’t surprise me if I get through the entire series in just a few weeks. Reviews coming soon!

Fantastic Four by Dan Slott vol. 1: Fourever

This is the first full arc of Fantastic Four that I read, and it was very interesting. I’ll save most of my thoughts for my review, but there was a lot of action, sci-fi, and fantasy, enough to keep a nerd like me interested!

What’s Next?

I have several books in my queue. I got hooked on Daredevil, so I haven’t read the other books I planned to read. This week I am hoping to catch up on my Walking Dead, Uncanny X-men by Claremont, and other books in my series.
